What “12.5kg” means
The 12.5kg is the amount of gas the cylinder is meant to hold, not what the whole thing weighs. The empty cylinder has its own weight, called the tare, which is usually stamped on it. So a full one on a scale reads much more than 12.5kg.
How to work out the cost
A refill is priced by weight, so the sum is simple: price per kilogram × kilograms of gas needed. At ₦1,400 per kilogram, for example, a completely empty 12.5kg cylinder would cost ₦17,500 in gas. That rate is only there to show the sum. It isn’t a DelivGas price.

What 12.5kg has been costing recently
Prices move often and vary by seller, so treat these as a guide, not a quote:
- ₦22,382.20: the national average for refilling 12.5kg in April 2026, from the National Bureau of Statistics’ LPG price watch, as reported in May 2026.
- About ₦17,616.94: a national average for September 2026 that Legit.ng attributed to “LPG market data” in October 2026. It doesn’t come from the NBS, so don’t read the two figures as one trend.
- ₦1,200 and ₦1,600 per kilogram: the two Lagos retail examples in the same Legit.ng report, which work out at about ₦15,000 and ₦20,000 for 12.5kg.
You don’t have to wait until it’s empty
If there is still gas in the cylinder when you refill, you only need to pay for the difference. If you want to judge how much is left, our guide on checking your gas level has two simple methods.

What to check when it comes back
- It is your cylinder. Note any marks on it before it leaves, so you can recognise it.
- It is upright, undamaged and has no smell of gas around the valve.
- If you own a scale, the weight is roughly the tare plus the gas you paid for.
